Doreen Lawrence, Director of the Stephen Lawrence Trust and Stephens mother, launches of a 'Shape your London' a programme run in-conjunction with Design for London and the London Development Authority at the annual memorial lecture. With 1 in 5 young people in the UK not currently in work, education or training and 48% of black or mixed-ethic youth currently unemployed. Doreen hopes the Trust and the new 'Shape your London' programme will offer young individuals a different path from that of unemployment and crime. 'Shape your London' encourages 16-19 year olds with a vision to radically change their community through design to submit their ideas and will offer prizes including; bursaries for university and college fees, educational resources and work experience placements.
