At the Invest in Nottingham London launch event Nigel Turner, Deputy Chairman of bmi discusses the history of BMI which was founded in the East Midlands in 1938 as ‘Air Schools Ltd’ and specialising in RAF pilot training. Still based in the East Midlands, bmi has grown to carry over 10 million passengers per year, employing more than 4000 staff. Nigel also discusses how bmi have held a strong presence in the area and how Nottingham is a leading UK city in terms of new development and investment because it has excellent transport links in the city as well as links to Europe and the rest of the world. This is set to grow with Nottingham's transport infrastructure spend rising to over £787 million in the next 5 years.
