The UK has one of the world's most ambitious targets for delivering zero-carbon homes by 2016 and zero-carbon non domestic buildings by 2019. But with time pressing on just how are we going rise to the challenges these targets present? This debate provides an opportunity to hear from three leading Ashden Award winners; Solar Century, Architype and Geothermal, who will respond to the proposition: "If I were the Government Minister responsible for zero carbon new buildings the key things that I would do to ensure that we are able to meet our targets would be ……" In partnership with the Ashden Awards for sustainable energy. In this clip Jonathon Porritt presents an introduction to proceedings, bringing an international element in his opening speech, telling the audience of a recent trip to Shanghai, where he saw significant progress being made on zero carbon buildings. In his talk Porritt reminds the audience that new build only represents a small fraction of energy use in buildings, and that refurbishment of existing housing stock is essential.
