Part of the RIBA Architecture & Climate Change Talks
Founder and principle of West 8, Adriaan Geuze, discusses his visionary landscape designs and urban masterplans for changing ecological and urban typologies.
West 8's projects include the iconic Borneo Sporenburg in Amsterdam (1997). Masterplanned by West 8, the design involved almost sixty architects, who through a series of workshops created the perfect collective manifesto to define the main urban programme. Borneo Sporenburg offered the perfect condition for the innovative idea of the patio house whilst challenging the architects to develop a typology in which a small patio serves for daylight and personal outdoor space.
Their projects often involve integrating large-scale eco-systems with urban development to create areas where nature, infrastructure and technology can combine to shape the conditions for more ecologically responsible societies.
